Race Report Italian Cup Supersport Round 3 Mugello

 In News

Hey Everyone!! Another weekend of racing has passed and this time we were at the awesome Mugello circuit.

Since Imola I have had another two weeks of recovery and daily physiotherapy exercises and the foot has come a long way. The bones have now fused, and I’ve been working on getting my muscles and ankle ligaments back to normal as I hadn’t walked for six weeks.

Friday – I had two free practice sessions and a provisional qualifying to get up to speed and find a good feeling with the bike. At first my feeling was ok, but I knew I needed a few adjustments to find the confidence in some of the corners I was struggling. During these sessions I also constantly worked with my riding, trying to find the best way to ride each corner and get the most out the bike. In qualifying one we tried a new part on the bike that took some time setting up and getting used to, so I wasn’t worried about our position because we always had qualifying two on Saturday.

Saturday – Another beautiful day in the Tuscan hills and it was time for qualifying two and race one, every session we had been trying new things with the suspension and engine braking, as it was the first time riding this bike at Mugello, I found a good feeling and set the tenth fastest time. We had been struggling a bit with power and outright speed were down 20kmh through the speed trap, we know the problem it is something we will fix for the next race, this obligated me to push harder and find the time in the corners.

In race one I had a pretty good start and I was able to stay in the group’s slip stream, I felt quite good in the corners so I could make passes and stay with the group quite easily, I was able pick off positions to finish in ninth. I was quite happy with the race in general, but I wasn’t aggressive enough in first lap to stay with the front pack, I improved my lap times again and was consistent so there were many positives.

Sunday – I had one final race, unfortunately the weather was looking quite ominous and my race wasn’t until late in the afternoon, so we had all day to make a decision on what to try for race two. It was looking like it would stay dry but there were some dark clouds on the horizon so we weren’t quite sure how it would pan out. I made a good start and was able to pass some riders in the first corners, I was with the first group for about three laps but lost some time with the first four guys when it started to rain in sector two and this broke up the group. I had the opportunity to catch and pass the rider ahead, then had good gap and I was consistent, I was hunting down sixth position but unfortunately ran out of laps. In the end I felt I managed the tyres and the race well, I’m satisfied to finish seventh considering the speed difference,  the good thing is I was happy with the feeling of my bike and felt great in the corners.

The team worked great and it was another positive weekend with improvements and was enjoyable, we are looking forward to the next one in four weeks!!
